Our latest development gives you invaluable insights into your retail or hospitality environment and allows you to automate powerful changes to your atmosphere.

At Startle, we’re dedicated to creating memorable customer experiences in retail and hospitality venues. This includes the perfect music, digital signage and now, comprehensive atmosphere monitoring to ensure you’re considering and optimising every element of your environment.

Introducing; Atmosphere.

Average busyness chart

The rationale

We've focused for years on the importance of background music on influencing behaviour and mood. But the choice of music is just one piece of the puzzle when creating the perfect atmosphere.

The perfect playlist can be drowned out by the hustle and bustle of noisy peak times in your restaurant. Your digital signage might not be performing effectively if what you’re advertising isn’t relevant to what's going on in-store. You might be losing customers because your bar is too hot and stuffy to enjoy a drink. Essentially, there are numerous elements of your environment that can impact the effectiveness of your music and tech and make for a poorer overall experience.

Here lay an opportunity to improve and streamline atmosphere curation by bringing data on these other elements - your busyness, liveliness, inside temperature and local weather, for example - into the very place you manage your in-store music and tech. It’s ensuring these things work with - not against - each other.

Automatic volume controls

And it goes a little something like this

Having an accurate picture of your retail or hospitality environment enables us to optimise your music and tech experience for every time, day and trading pattern through our intelligent integrations. For example...

Volume always at the optimum level

In a study into hospitality trends, noise levels were the most common complaint. By automating volume changes so that music levels adapt alongside busyness, you can be confidently in control of your atmosphere without having to distract your busy onsite teams.

Playlists that adapt to the environment

With music features like the tempo and sentiment having a significant impact on customer behaviour, you may want to change the vibe as your store or restaurant gets busier. Or, maybe you want to proactively encourage activity - a second coffee or longer browsing time, perhaps. Drive this automatically from your Startle system for the ultimate curated atmosphere.

Relevant signage content, always

Manually updating digital signage is a time-consuming task. Equally, your displays need to stay relevant to be effective. If you have signage by Startle, it works beautifully together by allowing you to set rules that change what’s on your in-store screens depending on aspects such as the weather or footfall.

Drumroll, please…

Finding our brand sound has been an exciting and interesting journey, and the help that we've had from the guys at Startle has been super valuable. We have to hand it to them, they nailed it from the get-go and we've been happily bopping away to these playlists ever since!”
